The Worcester Rugby Community came out in full force this past Saturday for the annual Worcester Sevens Tournament. The culmination of the summer Sevens season, 31 teams from clubs across New England came to run, tackle and ruck at Green Hill Park in Worcester.

This year the NERFU divisions were not as in demand. These are the competitive teams looking to advance in the Summer Sevens Series in hopes of making it to Nationals. This year we hosted Newport Mens, Boston Mens, and Boston Womens in the NERFU bracket. Both Boston teams took home trophies for the NERFU open bracket.

Worcester’s representatives this weekend all resided in the Social Divisions. As is tradition, the Dead Smileys and the Lady Dead Smileys took to action for their only appearances of the summer. This team fundraises for the Silver Towers Camp in Vermont in honor of a player, Moose, who is no longer with us. The Shamrocks put in a fierce team with both veteran and new players. Alongside the Shamrocks was a Shamrock derived team called the Try-Sara(h)-Tops. Shamrocks earned a spot to play for the bowl and played a strong match to end the day, falling short to the Hartford Wild Roses. The men’s club also had a number of teams in for the day including Worcester Men’s, Team Good Guy, and Carlo’s Crusaders. Team Good Guy made it to the Plate match and won!

On a beautiful day for rugby, there was more than just the sport. There was re-connection of old friends, kids discovering their love of rugby, and some exceptional food vendors. The Worcester Rugby community is grateful to all the teams, players and supporters that made this another successful tournament. Worcester Sevens will return in mid-July 2025, see you there!
