Worcester Mens competes in playoffs
Worcester Mens had quite the fall season! The club saw major growth this year and were able to have a full 1st side and 2nd side season with the 1st side competing in the NERFU Division 2 competition.
Worcester had some really competitive matches - winning against Charles River, Mystic River, Portland, Newport, and Hartford. Losing to Boston Rugby and the Boston Irish Wolfhounds. This record was a big improvement from previous seasons - much like the women’s team they found themselves playing a team in playoffs they lost to earlier in the season in a battle of a match.
11.9.24 Worcester Mens kicked off against the Boston Irish Wolfhounds (the first seed). Worcester started the match with back to back tries and pulling ahead with a lead through the first half. The match was fast paced and exciting, unfortunately also had a number of injuries that halted the pace of the game quite a bit. Worcester pressed on with strong subs coming on to finish out the game. After a few tries from the Hounds and a few penalties not going Worcesters way… the last whistle blew leaving Worcester with a 27-29 loss.
While this wasn’t the result anyone wanted there were many highlights to the season - the dedication and growth of the club, making it to playoffs and only losing by the smallest of margins, the 2nd side going undefeated. We look forward to seeing all they accomplish this spring!
